The current F1 World Champion is desperate to be the grid’s highest paid racer, ahead of the likes of Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso, and according to the Times, Mercedes are willing to meet his demands.
Four-time champion Vettel, who joined Ferrari at the end of last season, is thought to have signed a deal worth £36.3m a year, while Alonso will be earning £29m for each season at McLaren. However, Hamilton’s new wage packet could blow them out of the water.
All three drivers are currently participating in testing for the new F1 season, which begins in Australia in March.
