Delph caused outrage amongst Villa fans this week after making a second sensational U-turn to join Man City in an £8m deal.
The former Villa captain had previously released a statement insisting that he was committed to the club and last year claimed that he wanted to prove that there was still loyalty in the game.
However, he then had a change of heart with many suggesting that the imminent sale of Christian Benteke may well have been a factor.
Nevertheless, Martin Keown believes that he has been brave in his decision to move to the Etihad.
“People change their mind don’t they? It is what happens – he wouldn’t be the first person to turn down an opportunity, regretted it and then worked hard to change it and he has been brave enough to do that”, said Keown, according to Sky Sports.
“Let us not be too hard on Delph. I suffered backlash from the Villa fans when I left there and he has agonised over that decision and it was a tough call – he already made the call once and had to change his mind.”
Few Villa fans will be expected to share Keown’s sentiments, but they will now look to move on and hope that the club reinvests the money back in the squad wisely.
