England man in line for summer transfer to La Liga.
Unsettled Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney could be set for a stunning switch to Liga giants FC Barcelona at the end of the season, according to reports in the Daily Express.
The England international’s future with the Red Devils has been the subject of much speculation of late after the forward was omitted by head coach Sir Alex Ferguson from the club’s crucial second-leg encounter with Real Madrid in their Uefa Champions League last-16 clash at Old Trafford.
Reports earlier this week had suggested that big-spending Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain had already agreed a deal with United to bring the centre forward to the French capital next season, and now stories in the Spanish media are claiming that the 27-year-old is Barca bound.
Rooney is contracted to the Premier League champions elect until June 2015, but with his form in front of goal declining this season following the big-money arrival of fellow attacker Robin van Persie from Arsenal last summer, as well as continuing injury problems for the player, it would not be at all surprising if Ferguson does allow him to leave the club this summer.
