Premier League giants appear to have lost the race to sign Arda Turan as Barcelona have triggered the Atletico Madrid player’s release clause.
Atletico Madrid’s star winger Arda Turan could be playing for Spanish giants Barcelona next season after the Catalans reportedly triggered his £33 million release clause reports the Daily Express.
The news comes as a big blow to potential English suitors Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool, who are all in the running to sign the 27-year old Turkish international.
Manchester United in particular believed that they were the favourites to land the versatile front man, but Turan’s agent Ahmet Bulut has rubbished reports that his client was close to a switch to England.
Speaking about Turan’s situation, Bulut said, “There are several reports in the press saying we’ve made contact with English clubs but these are not true.”
Turan is very highly rated in European circles, and it would be reasonable to expect several other English clubs to come calling for his services later in the summer to compete against Barcelona. Barca’s new boss Luis Enrique is said to be a big fan of the winger, and wants him as part of his revamped Catalan side.
Turan scored 9 goals and assisted 6 for the Spanish Champions this past season, and it will be interesting to see whether the Turkish ace moves to an arch rival in Barcelona.
