FC Barcelona ready bid to sign one of Arsenal’s best performers of the last season.
FC Barcelona want to sign Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny this summer, according to Spanish source Sport.
The publication report that Barca value the 27 year-old at around €15 million (approximately £12.7m), which may not be enough to convince Arsene Wenger to part ways with one of his most improved players in recent seasons.
The France international centre half was often left on the Gunners bench for much of the first half of the season, and only played in 25 of 38 games as Thomas Vermaelen was preferred at the back.
However, upon Vermaelen being dropped for poor performances in March 2013, Koscielny won back his regular place in the starting line-up, and the 27 year-old’s partnership with Per Mertesacker proved vital in Arsenal’s late run to reach the UEFA Champions League yet again at the end of the season.
“I would like to play in other championships and I know that it’s difficult, but I want to win trophies and build my portfolio of medals,” said Koscielny.
With the Gunners now having increased transfer funds thanks to improved sponsorship contracts, the sales and release of deadwood from the playing squad, and less restrictions with stadium repayments, this summer is a chance for Arsene Wenger to prove that Arsenal match the ambition of Koscielny.
