West Bromwich Albion have reportedly agreed a £3m fee with Liverpool for Rickie Lambert.
The 33-year-old striker is currently undergoing a medical at Albion and Sky Sports claim that he could be a Baggie as early as this evening.
Lambert found first-team chances limited upon moving to Anfield from Southampton last summer and has fallen further down the pecking order courtesy of Liverpool’s summer business.
The Reds have put him on the transfer list and now West Brom are ready to swoop to boost their attacking options, in light of Saido Berahino possibly leaving the club.
Albion manager Tony Pulis told the Birmingham Mail on Thursday: “Rickie is available. Liverpool have made that known. We’d be interested.
“It’s very important that we get players who will score goals. Rickie’s got a great goal-scoring record.
“From what I can gather from people at Liverpool, his fitness levels are very, very good, and he is desperate to play football.
“He didn’t play last year so it’s like bringing a brand new car out of the garage if we did sign him. Just putting a bit of petrol in it and letting it run.”
Lambert scored just two Premier League goals for Liverpool last season, although 18 of his 25 appearances came as a substitute.
But the former England international proved that he can find the net at Southampton, where he amassed 106 goals in 207 league appearances between 2009 and 2014.
Fellow strikers Fabio Borini and Mario Balotelli are expected to follow Lambert out of Anfield soon.
