6. Rio Ferdinand – 1997-2011 (81 caps)
Ferdinand made his debut for England in 1997 in a friendly against Cameroon and has gone on to play in two World Cups.
The former West Ham and Leeds United defender was included in the 23-man squad that traveled to France in 1998, but was not played by manager Glenn Hoddle.
However, he was a key figure at both the 2002 and 2006 World Cups for his country, although injury kept Ferdinand out of the 2010 tournament and the centre-back never featured at a European Championship.
