4. Kenny Samson – 1979-1988 (86 caps)
The Arsenal left-back was a regular for England throughout the 1980s and won several plaudits for his performances for the national side.
Samson played in both the 1982 and 1986 World Cups and was only dropped a few times during the decade in friendlies, so that the manager could look at other possibilities in his position.
The defender retired in 1988 after helping the Three Lions during their European Championship qualification campaign.
