Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has reacted poorly to the suggestion from Liverpool star Simon Mignolet that he should be the Belgium number one.
National team coach Marc Wilmots has two top class goalkeepers at his disposal, but Chelsea loanee Courtois has proved himself one of the best goalkeepers in the division in his time at Estadio Vicente Calderon.
Wilmots has typically favoured Courtois in his spell in charge of the Belgian side, but Mignolet has recently voiced his hopes of claiming the jersey – something that irked Courtois.
“In Spain, I hear no goalkeeper saying they’re aiming for the place of Casillas,” the Chelsea owned Courtois is quoted as telling the Daily Express.
“Not De Gea, not Valdes, not Reina. It’s the opposite – they back Casillas.
“Simon can say whatever he wants, but I think I’ve already saved enough points for Belgium and I’m playing good games for Atletico. He has to stay humble and respectful.”
Both goalkeepers have earned 14 caps for their country.
