Arsenal 0-0 Sunderland video highlights: Gunners goal failure goes on as Black Cats avoid relegation with gritty draw
Arsenal v Sunderland confirmed teams news: Laurent Koscielny starts despite flu
Sunderland ensured themselves a ninth consecutive season in the Premier League by gaining a point, and relegation now comes down to Hull City or Newcastle.
Black Cats goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon shined for his team by making a whopping eight saves, and Arsenal failed to score a single goal despite heavily outshooting Sunderland.
Arsenal took 28 shots, with 15 of them being on target, while Sunderland only took seven, with four of them on target.
Here is how each of Wenger’s players performed in this scoreless game…
David Ospina 8/10
Ospina deserves credit for recording a shutout against Sunderland since his teammates constantly failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities, and he made all of his saves count despite only making three. While this was not necessarily a performance for the ages, Ospina is a major reason why this turned into a draw and not a loss for Arsenal.
Kieran Gibbs 5/10
Although Arsenal did not allow a goal, Gibbs did not make much of an impact. He was able to get a shot on goal though.
Per Mertesacker 5/10
Mertesacker has come back from an ankle injury that he sustained earlier in the season. He also contributed in the Gunners not allowing a goal to Sunderland but committed a foul during the match.
Laurent Koscielny 7/10
Unlike the other two defenders, Koscielny put on a solid performance and was the biggest reason of all Arsenal defenders that a goal was not allowed, and he contributed a lot in the turnover department despite not showing up on the stat sheet.
Hector Bellerin 6/10
Bellerin had some memorable moments, as he forced Pantilimon to make some spectacular saves by getting in a cross toward Olivier Giroud, who was unable to capitalize on a scoring opportunity.
