Winger has been a revelation since arriving in England.
New Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho will sit down with playmaker Juan Mata to discuss the player’s future at Stamford Bridge next month, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The exciting Spain international has only been in west London for the past two campaigns now, having signed for the Blues from Liga giants Valencia for £23.5 million in Aug 2011.
And in the intervening two-year period, the 25-year-old has established himself to be one of the most creative players in the Premier League, with Mata registering an eye-catching 32 goals and 59 assists in his 118 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea during that time, including an equally impressive 18 goals and 34 assists in his 69 top-flight contests for the club.
However, despite those sensational attacking numbers, rumours have been rife of late that the self-styled ‘Special One’ is not a fan of the skilful wide man and will seek to offload the player this summer in order to help fund arrivals in other key areas of the team.
But it looks as though those stories may be wide of the mark, with the pair due to sit down together as soon as the Chelsea players return for pre-season training next month.
