Vincenzo Montella will not let Adem Ljajic bully his way out of the club…
Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Montella is tired of the Adem Ljajic transfer saga which is threatening to destabilise his side’s start to the season, reports Sky Sports.
The 21-year-old Serbian attacker is refusing to sign a new contract with the Serie A side, with Italian giants AC Milan and Premier League club Liverpool both reportedly interested.
“I’m fed up with this situation,” said Montella, the former Roma and Italy striker.
“Adem has felt he has a point to prove ever since the second half of last season, but it’s also true that his colleagues and fans have stuck by him.
“He’s received his coach’s backing, too. I don’t have the time or desire to keep waiting, especially because the lad is not happy.
“So from my point of view, a coach’s point of view, I’m going to do things my way.”
Montella’s comments indicate that Ljajic, who will start Monday night’s league game against Catania from the bench, will not be able to force his way out of the club. After Ljajic’s disrespectful attitude, his manager is dropping him from the first-team line-up, despite being widely regarded as one of Fiorentina’s best players.
The Serie A club’s chief executive Sandro Menucci did admit however that Ljajic, who bagged 11 league goals last term, would be sold if he fails to sign a new contract.
“He won’t remain here without renewing his contract. It won’t be right,” he said.
“We have offered him a really good contract. If he considers it to be adequate, it will be good. Otherwise, he will leave.”
