Gomez arrival heralds exciting era for the Viola.
Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has revealed his joy at the work the club owners have done this summer to make the club even more competitive.
The Viola finished fourth in Serie A last season, missing out on Champions League football on the last day of the season to rivals Milan.
However, that has not prevented them from bolstering the squad this summer as they look to continue their ascent of Serie A and aim for a top-three finish in the new season.
Coach Vincenzo Montella has been praised for the style of football that he has adopted since being appointed, and despite the expected departure of Stevan Jovetic, Prade believes the club are heading in the right direction.
“The arrival of a champion like [Mario] Gomez confirms how strong our club is,” said sporting director Daniele Prade as reported by football-italia.net.
“The owners of this club will allow us to take on Goliath on equal terms.”
Technical director Eduardo Macia was also particularly impressed by the acquisition of Gomez, with the German international joining in a deal worth an initial €15.5m, which is likely to increase with various bonuses.
Around 23,000 supporters attended his presentation at the Artemio Franchi on Monday, and they will also be excited about the future of the club moving forward.
It is has been a strong summer thus far for the Viola having also signed Joaquin, and while Jovetic is just details away from securing a move to Manchester City, they will be buoyed by the likelihood of the likes of David Pizzarro and Adem Ljajic staying in Florence.
