Serbian international must decide on contract renewal or leave.
Fiorentina have delivered a warning to AC Milan target Adem Ljajic, after Vincenzo Montella recently questioned his attitude.
The 21-year-old was left out of the Viola’s most recent pre-season friendly against Apollon Limassol, despite being handed the captain’s armband in the win over Cremonese a few days earlier.
Montella revealed that Ljajic wasn’t in the right state of mind to take part in the club’s pre-season schedule, citing the continued confusion over his contract renewal as a possible reason for his disillusion.
Ljajic’s current deal is set to expire next summer, and it is understood that there have been initial negotiations over extending his stay in Florence.
However, speculation in the Italian media continues to suggest that AC Milan are monitoring his situation with Adriano Galliani having spoken to counter-part Daniele Prade about the player.
While talks are set to continue, Prade had a warning for Ljajic as he continues to contemplate his future.
“Those who want to remain at FIorentina must prove it, otherwise there are other ways to go for them. We are a strong club, the player must let us know what he wants to do, and must do so as soon as possible,” he told reporters as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
It is unclear at this stage as to whether Ljajic would prefer to remain at the Artemio Franchi or move to Milan, but it is apparent from Prade’s comments that the club wish to know his intentions in the near future.
With Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Gomez striking up a prolific partnership in pre-season thus far, Ljajic’s place in the starting line-up may be under threat. The question remains whether or not he will be sold this summer to avoid losing him for nothing next summer.
