4) Ivan Rakitic (Sevilla to Barcelona)
With changes needed at Barcelona after a highly disappointing trophyless season, the Catalan giants have done well to snap up one of Europe’s most in-demand playmakers early on in the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old has a superb record in La Liga over the last couple of seasons, establishing himself as one of the most effective attacking midfield players in the Spanish top flight, and showing that he can be a great successor to Barcelona veteran Xavi, who looks increasingly likely to join another midfielder Cesc Fabregas out of the Nou Camp exit door in this transfer window. The likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid were said to be keen on Rakitic, but Barcelona’s success in sealing this move could make all the difference for them as they look to get back to winning ways next season.
