3) David Luiz (Chelsea to Paris Saint-Germain)
The latest big-money signing by mega-rich Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, David Luiz has left Chelsea after three and a half years at Stamford Bridge. The Brazilian centre-back is currently on international duty as his country host the 2014 World Cup, and will be hoping to come away with the biggest prize in football before returning to club football with his new team. A player who divides opinion, Luiz has seemingly not impressed manager Jose Mourinho this season, and his somewhat adventurous and gung-ho displays from the back are perhaps not the qualities the Blues boss looks for in a defender, meaning the £50m made from his sale will certainly be satisfying. This move makes Luiz the most expensive defender of all time and the 7th most expensive of any position in the history of the game. Many who follow football in this country will be surprised if that fee proves worthwhile for PSG, but it could be that the eccentric 27-year-old will improve tremendously playing alongside his fellow countryman Thiago Silva at the back at the Parc des Princes.
