Spending among Premier League clubs is looking likely to rise again this summer, with a total of £60m more spent already in comparison to this time last year, BBC Sport reports.
As expected, the big clubs and title hopefuls have been up there with the most money spent on new players, though there is also a surprise package among the top five, as seen below:
5) Newcastle United (Six players, £30.5m)
Newcastle United are showing some real intent this summer as they find themselves among the busiest Premier League clubs in the transfer window so far. The Magpies had a highly disappointing season in 2013/14, enduring a miserable run in the second half of the season despite securing a safe mid-table finish due to some early season form and poor results from the teams below them.
Still, Alan Pardew has invested wisely in six new players, with French playmaker Remy Cabella among the most exciting as he arrives from Montpellier for a fee in the region of £11.5m, though some reports suggest it could be £7m. Elsewhere, Daryl Janmaat has come in at right-back for around £5m, replacing the departing Mathieu Debuchy. Upfront, loan signing Loic Remy has been replaced by Siem de Jong and Emmanuel Riviere, who have cost the club around £6m each.
