3) Sol Campbell (Arsenal)
Hated by Tottenham Hotspur fans and adored by Arsenal fans for his controversial decision to join the latter on a free transfer from the former in the summer of 2001, Sol Campbell was an instant hit at Highbury, showing himself to be a world class performer as the club won the double in his first season.
More trophies followed with an FA Cup win in 2003, and then a famous unbeaten title-winning season in 2004.
Campbell also marked his final appearance in his first spell with the north London giants with a goal in the Champions League final against Barcelona, though their opponents turned the game around late on.
Campbell joined Portsmouth on a free, which mildly annoyed some Gunners fans as he had hinted at a move abroad, but he made up for it by returning to the club in the 2009/10 season after being given a second chance by Arsene Wenger.
The former England international repaid Wenger’s faith in him, and proved great cover for the side in the second half of the season as they just missed out on the Premier League title.
