1. Manchester United desperately need reinforcements in January
With United desperately chasing an equaliser, the hosts finished the match with Rooney and Shinii Kagawa in a makeshift central midfield. While Moyes’ gung-ho attitude was admirable, the defeat once again underlined United’s desperate lack of options in the middle of the park – particularly compared with their less-illustrious opponents. Spurs were missing Brazil internationals Sandro and Paulinho and yet still fielded Capoue alongside Mousa Dembele and the powerful duo were too much for Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley. How Moyes would love to have such a host of options! Instead the Scot was overly reliant on winger Januzaj and forward Rooney for midfield creativity and his team paid the price for a failure to break down stubborn Spurs.
