5) Chelsea’s stifling tactics…
It wasn’t especially pretty, and although it’s hypocritical from Jose Mourinho considering his comments about West Ham earlier in the season, Chelsea’s tactics were spot on.
Chelsea marked zones instead of players, meaning that while Liverpool had virtually all of the ball, they had no areas in which they could exploit their dominance.
Liverpool thrive during fast-paced, open matches, but Chelsea did everything they can to stifle the game, ruining it as a spectacle, and frustrating the Reds badly.
By the end, Liverpool were having multiple long shots on goal, visibly angered by the fact they couldn’t break down Chelsea’s incredibly stubborn side.
