Five players being linked with returns to the Premier League.
Following the news that former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has completed a controversial return to England by leaving Barcelona for Chelsea, fanatix looks at five other former Premier League-based players being linked with returns this summer.
A move to an English club looked likely for some time for Fabregas, whose dream move back to his boyhood club in Catalunya never truly worked out after his inconsistent displays saw him become unpopular with a majority of the fans at the Nou Camp, but the player confirmed that Arsenal did not take up the option to re-sign him.
There are several others out there playing for top European clubs now who could also be set for a summer return to the Premier League, and not all of them would necessarily be lining up for their old clubs either, rubbing salt into the wounds of those that had previously allowed them to leave as they could now face coming up against them as an opponent.
5) Alex Song (Barcelona)
Another former Arsenal midfielder currently plying his trade at the Nou Camp, Cameroon international Alex Song is another player who has struggled to make the desired impact since joining Barcelona, often finding himself warming the substitutes’ bench or playing a utility man role by filling in at the back in the absence of others through injury or suspension. A return to the Emirates Stadium has been mentioned as a possibility, while Liverpool and Manchester United are also rumoured to be monitoring his situation, in what would be another bitter pill for Gunners fans to swallow following Fabregas’ unveiling at Chelsea.
