Now the Dutchman’s appointment has been confirmed here is the transfer business expected to happen.
On Monday football’s worst kept secret was revealed as Manchester United confirmed current Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal will be their next manager.
The Dutchman will succeed David Moyes after the 2014 World Cup and unlike the Scot brings a wealth of top-class experience to the role.
It’s also expected that van Gaal will oversee an overhaul of the squad at Old Trafford this summer and here are five players leaving and five to be bought in.
Players out
Tom Cleverley
Accused fans and the media of treating him as a scapegoat during United’s disappointing time under Moyes and whilst that may be true to an extent, Cleverley certainly appears to be a weak link.
With Michael Carrick an established figure who has previously proven himself and Marouane Fellaini a £27.5m transfer less than 12 months ago, it’s the 24-year-old that will be sacrificed to make space for new recruitment.
