One thing that Wenger did manage to improve within his team last season was defensive solidity, with Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker establishing a great partnership at the back.

Unfortunately for club captain Vermaelen that meant that his chances were limited as a result and the Belgium international is looking at options elsewhere.
