Manager Brendan Rodgers fielded two entirely different teams in each half, and our friends at top Liverpool FC blog Empire of the Kop have rated all 22 players based on their 45-minute stints.
Check out the ratings for the five debutants right here…
Adam Bogdan (goalkeeper): 6/10
EOTK say: “Literally the easiest debut a player can ever have. Not sure he touched the ball.”
Nathaniel Clyne (right-back): 6/10
EOTK say: “Most of Liverpool’s good work in the second half came down the right, and he played a large part in this. Comfortable defensively, even in the pouring tropical rain. Played many neat passes through to onrushing midfielders – but was also guilty of giving away possession when he tried to dribble.”
Joe Gomez (right-back): 7/10
EOTK say: “Physically impressive. Overlapped consistently and didn’t look at all fazed by making his Liverpool debut aged 18.”
Danny Ings (striker): 7/10
EOTK say: “Lively. Worked hard, had a goal unfairly disallowed and looked sharp.”
James Milner (midfield): 7/10
EOTK say: “Playing on the right of the midfield three, Milner played a box-to-box roll, helping tick over possession as we completely dominated the ball.”
