1) Roberto Martinez (Everton)
Perhaps the most realistic, but also most tempting option for England’s next manager would be Everton’s Roberto Martinez. Although there is not a single English name on this list, Martinez has done wonders for the game in the Premier League in his time with first Wigan Athletic and then with the Toffees. Still only 40, the Spaniard is one of the brightest young coaches in the game and has been key in the improved performances of England players such as Ross Barkley and Leighton Baines this season. After providing one of the biggest FA Cup final upsets of all time with Wigan in 2013, Martinez has shown he can cut it at a bigger club as well, turning Everton from a functional and solid side under David Moyes to an exciting and ambitious team that caused a number of upsets in the latest Premier League season. Martinez stayed loyal to Wigan for some time despite approaches from bigger clubs, so it may be hard to convince him to leave Everton anytime soon, but there is certainly some potential for Martinez to revolutionise English football if he is given the chance, and the FA should arguably make him their first choice if they do decide to part company with Hodgson in the near future.
