Linked with the Liverpool job on several occasions but chose to stay with Wigan and build on his reputation there.
Martinez has dragged the Latics away from relegation in dramatic fashion for the past two seasons, but it seems his luck may have run out this campaign as Wigan look favourites to go down.
Whether Everton fans would want a relegated manager in charge is debatable but the Spaniard has earned a lot of respect for his style of play at both the DW Stadium and Swansea.
