Manchester United have been particularly busy in the transfer market recently, with louis van Gaal’s new team securing deals for Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw from Athletic Bilbao and Southampton respectively, blowing a significant chunk of their transfer budget in the process.
One inevitably of big money new arrivals, however, is that some established stars will find their positions under threat, a situation that is exacerbated at United by the horrendous nature of the 2013/14 season at Old Trafford.
We’ve taken a look at the United squad and picked out the five players who could find themselves marginalised by van Gaal’s quickfire spending spree.
1) Patrice Evra (Left Back)
Luke Shaw’s arrival from Southampton, for a world record transfer fee for a teenager, has put established and experienced left back Patrice Evra right in the firing line.
Evra has been virtually ever-present at Old Trafford since signing from Ligue 1 club AS Monaco, but Evra is now on his way down and Shaw’s arrival could signal a genuine changing of the guard when it comes to the left back position at the club.
