Tom Cleverley has often been criticised by Manchester United fans and the media alike for his displays in the Manchester United first team – and the arrival of Herrera at the club is likely to put another obstacle between Cleverley and a regular place in the Old Trafford starting line-up.
Cleverley has failed to kick on from impressive loan spells at Leicester City and Wigan Athletic and it would be surprise if van Gaal decided that he was surplus to requirements upon his full time arrival at Old Trafford.
