Essentially he’s a younger, more continental copy of Michael Carrick and we know what an incredible presence he was in the middle during Sir Alex Ferguson’s time as United manager.
Strootman has been continually linked with the Red Devils but they have been warned off attempting to sign him by the Roma hierarchy who are demanding an exceptional transfer fee to allow him to leave.
With the club bosses at United said to be preparing to sanction another big transfer spend this summer, United may just pay what Roma are asking as van Gaal knows he needs a player of Strootman’s ability in the heart of his team.
