Brian Close: v. West Indies, Old Trafford (1976)
England captain Tony Greig made inflammatory remarks aimed at the West Indies side before the 1976 Test between the two sides, and poor 45-year-old Brian Close paid for it.
West Indies quick Michael Holding peppered the veteran with a number of short balls, leaving him severely bruised.
It’s difficult to watch, and you could only imagine the fear and pain Close was dealing with at the time.
