Dutchman plots more business as he looks to splash remaining £140m of transfer budget.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal hopes to make at least two more signings this summer and has drawn up a five-man shortlist, according to The Express.
United have already brought in England left-back Luke Shaw from Southampton and Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao for a combined total of almost £60m.
The Red Devils still have around 70 per cent of their £200m budget intact though.
Van Gaal is due in England next week, after refusing to take a holiday after guiding the Netherlands to third place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has his eye on Juventus star Artur Vidal, Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria, Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman and Borussia Dortmund pair Mats Hummels and Marco Reus.
Talks are said to be at an advanced stage over a £40m move for Vidal, while Di Maria, who is valued at a similar amount, is also a target.
United are hopeful that £25m will be enough to land defender Hummels, while they have made an enquiry for midfielder Reus.
Roma are very reluctant to sell Strootman this summer, but United are likely to continue to track the 24-year-old with a view to signing him in January.
