The flying Brazilian is widely regarded as the finest right-back in world football and has been a mainstay in the Barcelona side since arriving for £30m from Sevilla in 2008.
But the 29-year-old has struggled to meet his own high standards this term and there are rumblings from Spain that the Catalans are ready to replace Alves with a younger model in the summer.
If Wenger wants to truly build a squad capable of challenging for trophies, he needs winners and love him or hate him, Alves fits the bill.
