Despite a strong relationship with his manager Jose Mourinho, Michael Essien has fallen way down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and is no longer the dynamic box-to-box player he was when he first joined Chelsea.

The Ghana international could still do a job at a less prestigious club, but is not at the requisite level to play on a regular basis for a team on the hunt for major honours.
