The Spaniard is arguably the greatest player never to win a major. It is probably best to say that he has struggled to reach the standard he threatened to set when he first emerged on tour as an excitable teenager.
His best finish at Augusta came back in 2004. But if his hot and cold putting gets into gear, he may be joining Jose Maria Olazabal, and the late great Seve Ballesteros as masters round Augusta.
