Goals from Hector Bellerin, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Oliver Giroud inflicted the huge defeat on the Reds last Saturday – their biggest loss of the season and largest against the Gunners for nine years – all but consigning them to the Europa League.
However, it’s still not been a disastrous season for Brendan Rodgers and co, for whom a Champions League spot wasn’t even a remote possibility until the start of last season. Here are the five positives we spotted…
5) Emre Can & Philippe Coutinho
Emre Can’s stunning progress since the turn of the year has proved that Brendan Rodgers didn’t drain away all of the club’s money last season. Equally, Coutinho has been simply stunning at times and at just £8.5m in January 2013 must be one of the biggest bargains ever.
