4) Continuity is important, as United know from experience
Signing players for the future can help United regain the best moments from their past. Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t invest as much money in the likes of Giggs and Scholes, but he did invest time in their careers, providing United with two vitally important and incredibly long-serving first-team players whose experience and winning mentality helped create an idendity at Old Trafford that made it easy for other signings to come in and continue the tradition of winning. Signing Shaw now means that in five years time he will already be a senior member of the team and able to oversee the development and settling in of future young players and new additions.
