The SEC conference schools have made hundreds of millions of dollars in the last few years just on football alone, yet of those elite schools only a small handful have become professional players, and even fewer have made anything close to the amount of money they helped earn their schools when they played in college.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban makes upwards of $6 million per year – more than most NFL head coaches as well – and yet only several of the hundreds of players he has coached at Alabama have made more than him despite it being their efforts on the field that earned him that money in the first place.
