1. Super Bowl wins
One of the first arguments that Roethlisberger’s critics point to is his Super Bowl 40 performance. While it was nothing to write home about, his playoff games before that were impressive as he totaled seven touchdown passes against only one interception, and this came against tough teams such as the Colts and Broncos. He also made a clutch 37-yard throw to Ward on a third-and-28 play before sneaking into the end zone for the Steelers’ first touchdown.
In addition to his clutch performances over the years, Roethlisberger has the Super Bowl rings on his resume to prove that he is one of the top quarterbacks and has the stats to back it up. He also led the Steelers to an 8-4 run after an 0-4 start where he had no running game and an injury-filled offensive line that was already bad enough as it was.
Super Bowl wins are a team effort, and having none does not automatically diminish success of quarterbacks such as Dan Marino. However, being able to lead a team to the big game often says a lot about a quarterback, and most championship teams have been led by great quarterbacks.
