Admittedly, most of Van Gaal’s early transfer work was impressive. Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Memphis Depay will form the new core to this squad, but he still hasn’t addressed problem areas.
The Dutch tactician has spent a lot of money, and yet United seem to lacking in central defence and have limited options up front. Surely he should have put in place the components he needs by now?
