3. Overcoming adversity
Ohio State was not considered the favorite to win the Big Ten as Michigan State entered the season with higher expectations. However, the Buckeyes defeated them on the road while scoring 49 points. They hold a 12-1 record despite being counted out after quarterback Braxton Miller had a season-ending shoulder injury. J.T. Barrett took over and emerged as a Heisman candidate while improving over the course of the season.
The Buckeyes’ season hit a snag when Barrett went down with a season-ending leg injury against Michigan, so third-stringer Cardale Jones was thrown to the wolves in the Big Ten Championship. However, Jones responded with a nearly perfect performance against Wisconsin. All of this says a lot about the team’s character, so there is no reason to think they can’t upset Alabama and win it all.
