2. Strong running back draft class
The upcoming draft may be a primary reason why Chip Kelly decided to pull the trigger on such a bold move. This year’s class features an extremely deep pool of running backs.
This includes Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon, who was a 2014 Heisman finalist. Also among the running backs are Georgia’s Todd Gurley, Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah, Indiana’s Tevin Coleman and Alabama’s T.J. Yeldon.
Kelly is known for getting the most out of his running backs, which he began to show at Oregon with players such as LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner.
The Eagles will easily be able to grab a potential franchise running back in Round 2 and maybe even Round 3 or 4. If Alonso returns to form and the Eagles draft their running back of the future, this trade will quickly make critics change their minds.
