4) Germany 2-2 Ghana (Group G)
A match that came close to being an even bigger shock, but Ghana put in a superb performance to give tournament favourites and three-time winners Germany a real scare here. In a crazy twenty minutes of football in this gripping encounter, Bayern Munich starlet Mario Goetze had given Germany the lead, before a quickfire double from Andre Ayew and former Sunderland star Asamoah Gyan saw Ghana go in front. The ever-reliable veteran centre-forward Miroslav Klose then poached a typical equaliser to deny their African opponents a famous victory, and in the process equaled the record of Brazil legend Ronaldo to make him joint-top scorer in World Cup history with 15 goals in the finals. A brilliant game with plenty of chances right until the end, and perhaps a wake-up call for Germany, who perhaps took their foot off the gas somewhat after an easy opening day victory over Portugal in their first match.
