Stevan Jovetic
One other critical difference for Arsenal this season is that they don’t have a world class centre forward capable of matching the goal threat Robin van Persie provided them with last season.
The Dutchman was a huge factor in the Gunners salvaging third place from Tottenham Hotspur last season, and although summer signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud have had reasonable debut seasons for Arsenal, none have provided the consistency of Van Persie.
23 year-old Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic, comparable to Van Persie at the same age, could be the answer.
The Montenegro international possesses wonderful technique, vision and a powerful strike, and since graduating from winger to striker – as Van Persie did – the goals have started to flow.
Twelve goals and four assists in 23 appearances for I Viola this season are a solid strike rate, and he looks well on course to beat his best goal tally of 15 goals before the season ends.
Van Persie took time to mature into a world class striker, and Jovetic looks on his way to becoming one – though he would not come cheap.
