3. Do summer transfer business early
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is famed for his brinkmanship and negotiation skills but the club’s policy of waiting until the eleventh hour on transfer deadline to make signings is damaging. Last season, Spurs lost their first two matches under Harry Redknapp before signing Scott Parker and Emmanuel Adebayor and embarking on an astonishing unbeaten run.
If they had invested sooner, they might have secured third and enjoyed Champions League football this term. It was a similar story this year, as Andre Villas-Boas picked up just a point from his opening two matches before Hugo Lloris, Clint Dempsey and Adebayor (this time on a permanent deal) arrived.
Spurs must get their business done early this summer, allowing Villas-Boas the chance to make a flying start to next season with a settled squad. After all, every point counts.
