3. The Detroit Lions will go as far as Matthew Stafford takes them
While the Lions defense had an uncharacteristically poor performance against the New England Patriots with 34 points allowed, Stafford performed miserably as well. The Lions quarterback was held without a touchdown pass for the second consecutive week, and he only has 13 touchdown passes on the season against 10 interceptions with just 58.8 percent of his passes completed. Although he has come through in the clutch in various games, Stafford’s play has dropped off dramatically in the past couple of weeks.
The Lions have the weapons necessary for Stafford to succeed with Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate both healthy, and the defense has been one of the best units in the NFL this season. The Lions are now a game behind the Packers in the NFC North, and they will have a tough wall to climb to reach the Super Bowl. The Lions offense will need to step up their play to make a deep playoff run, and this starts with Stafford.
