Week 7 of NFL football featured some exciting games and blowouts, and a major upset involving the Seattle Seahawks happened once again as they fell to the St. Louis Rams.
The Jacksonville Jaguars achieved their first win of the season with a 24-6 victory against the Cleveland Browns, and the Buffalo Bills improved to 4-3 despite losing their top two running backs.
The Indianapolis Colts shut out the Cincinnati Bengals to achieve their fifth consecutive win and establish themselves as Super Bowl contenders.
Here are five observations from this week of NFL football.
5. Injuries are hurting the San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers have managed to look like a Super Bowl contender at times with linebackers NaVorro Bowman and Aldon Smith out, but the team has suffered even more injuries. Their secondary took a major hit as cornerbacks Chris Culliver and Chris Cook were taken out of the game against the Denver Broncos. Safety Jimmie Ward also missed the game.
Guard Mike Iupati being out with a concussion has hurt the offensive line, and right tackle Anthony Davis just returned. However, center Daniel Kilgore was taken out of the game. The 49ers offensive line has performed poorly this season, as evidenced by quarterback Colin Kaepernick being sacked six times by the Broncos. Losing 42-17 is never acceptable for a team with Super Bowl aspirations, but injuries clearly played a factor in the blowout loss.
