4. The New Orleans Saints are still a good team
The Saints improved to 4-3 after beating the Packers at home, and their home record is now 3-0. This makes it easy to conclude that the Saints still benefit strongly from their home field and are much worse on the road. However, quarterback Drew Brees looked like his old self again as he threw for 311 yards and three touchdown passes on 27-of-32 passing, and running back Mark Ingram ran for 172 yards and a touchdown.
Since the Carolina Panthers lost and fell to 3-4-1, the Saints are now just half a game behind the Panthers and will have a golden opportunity to take first place in the NFC South on Thursday. Although they had a slow start, it’s still difficult to envision a team led by Brees and head coach Sean Payton missing the playoffs. If they can fix their defensive woes, they will become even more difficult to beat, especially in New Orleans.
