On Saturday, the first week of NFL preseason games concluded and featured highlights such as the debut of Johnny Manziel.
The first week of preseason games has come to a close, and there were more highlights from Saturday’s games.
Here are five takeaways from the final day of the Week 1 preseason games.
5. Ryan Fitzpatrick doesn’t have the Texans starting job locked up
Fitzpatrick is the favorite to start at quarterback in Houston, but his preseason debut for the Texans was awful as he threw two interceptions. Luckily for him, Tom Savage and Case Keenum were not much better, so he will have plenty of opportunities to redeem himself and keep a hold on the starting job. However, the quarterback situation still looks bleak in Houston.
4. Kellen Moore may win the No. 2 job for the Lions
The Lions beat the Browns 13-12, thanks to a game-winning touchdown pass by Moore with just over a minute remaining. Moore performed spectacularly, throwing 11-for-13 for 121 yards. Dan Orlovsky has been considered the No. 2 quarterback in Detroit, but his accuracy was spotty, and he only threw for 89 yards despite having 23 pass attempts. Moore has been counted out since the day he left Boise State, but he is on the right track to become Matthew Stafford’s primary backup.
