3. Matt Flynn’s No. 2 job is not secure
Flynn started for the Packers, and his performance against the Titans was not very reassuring. He threw for 49 yards on 5-for-10 passing, and a chunk of those yards came from broken tackles. Meanwhile, Scott Tolzien looked fantastic and threw for 124 yards on 8-for-12 passing. If this type of play between the quarterbacks continues, Tolzien will win the No. 2 job. He possesses more upside with his arm strength, but Flynn still has more knowledge of the offense, so he’s still clinging on.
2. Johnny Manziel looks better than Brian Hoyer
Hoyer had the starting job initially, and he started the first preseason game for the Browns. However, he did nothing to distance himself from the man known as “Johnny Football.” Manziel wasn’t spectacular, but he still had flashes of brilliance as he rushed for 27 yards, including a 16-yard run. He also passed for 63 yards on 7-of-11 passing. The former Heisman Trophy winner will start in the Browns’ second preseason game, so this will be his chance to solidify the starting job over Hoyer.
