Anorak Arsenal fans will obviously disagree, but striker Campbell, who can also play as a winger, was a footballing nobody in the eyes of most English football followers until February this year.
February was the month in which Campbell scored the eighth goal (of nine) of his loan spell at Olympiakos. It came in a 2-0 win over Manchester United in the Champions League.
United went on to win the second leg 3-0, but a star had been born.
Campbell, who recently celebrated his 22nd birthday, continued his impressive rise from unknown youngster to global starlet by scoring a goal and setting one up in Costa Rica’s shock 3-1 win over Uruguay in June.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been linked with a host of top class strikers this summer, but he has yet to sign one.
Perhaps Wenger believes in Campbell enough to entrust him with the responsibility of regular first-team football?
The versatile forward has yet to feature in a senior game for the Gunners, but that will surely change come August when a new chapter is written.
However, for now, Campbell is focused on international matters, with overachievers Costa Rica preparing for a quarter-final clash with the Netherlands.
